Stereotypes and prejudice in the intercultural couple :

from friends and family towards the couple :

Study 2: focus groups

The experience of stereotypes, prejudices and racism within intercultural couples coming from the family and relatives and its impact on the identity of the partners and on the couple's well-being.

Iman Sta-Ali's doctoral research project mainly aims to study how racism manifests itself in intercultural romantic relationships, but particularly, racism originating from relatives (family and friends). In addition, I seek to understand its connection with the quality of relationships and the cultural identity of the partners. Conflicts of identity as well as racism in intimate relationships are very sensitive and under-represented phenomena. Finally, my research project aims to shed light on the invisible theme of racism from family and friends towards intercultural couples.
